Page Control
The Page Control System (PCS) has afforded state
legislatures to remove page indicator boards from the chamber wall and podium
area. The PCS system allows a page operator, typically the sergeant at arms, to
control page requests through a laptop of desktop computer. Typically a touch
screen monitor is installed to allow the page operator to see which member has
requested a page. From interacting with the application the page operator can
dispense a page to the appropriate member and the system will indicate that a
page has been sent. The page operator can turn off the page request or the
system can be configured so that a second push of the member’s page button will
drop the request from the PCS queue.
The PCS software can be configured for
larger legislative bodies to indicate the row and desk number of the member
requesting the page. This is very helpful to temporary pages unfamiliar with
members’ seating locations. The PCS system can also be configured to make an
audible sound to inform the page operator that a request has been made. Because
of the interaction of the page software with other IRC application the
Legislative Officer and or Presiding Officer can have a button to request a
page.
